Computer at Home

This guest post from Mickey Garza

We used our tax return to get a desktop computer, and a printer, for our home. It is so nice to be able to sit in the living room and get on the computer. The other night, the kids were wondering what time a show came on, and I was able to say, just go get on the computer and look at Expertsatellite.com. Within minutes they were able to find the time and channel of the show they wanted to see.

So much information is sent through the internet these days, that it only makes sense to have a computer with internet access at home. The kids are thrilled to have a computer at home. They play games on it, study, look at youtube, etc. Sure, there were other things that we could have done with the tax return money, like put it in savings like we usually do, but I think we made the right choice this year. I love being able to check my email, go on Face Book, etc. right from home.

  1. Hard to imagine life without a computer, hate to say it. My boys certainly have never known a day in their lives without it on somewhere in the house, even if they were too little to get on it. I'd like to be able to just walk away from it -- which I do, now that I have the Ipad! love the thing!

    1. Sandra, I can't imagine it but I know there was a day when I didn't have one. That has been many moons ago now. When my internet was shut off over Christmas, I got a glance back at what it was like. Life went on just fine. I went to the library to put up a post, and for the rest of the time I found other stuff to do. Thanks for stopping in to read and for your comments!

    1. Weissdorn, now that is cool!! Computers have opened up the whole world without even having to leave the house. If it weren't for the use of a computer, I would have never had the pleasure of knowing you! Thanks for stopping in!

  3. I know what you mean. I just found out that I can listen to my radio station through my computer today. Want to listen to radio live from Hessen too? You can do it using your Windows Media Player, if you click on the livestream link on this page:

  4. I would rather have my computer than t.v. or radio because I can do both right here on my lap top. The only thing I don't do is read books online. I still like going to the library and holding a book in my hand.

    1. Magical Mystical Mimi, I am amazed daily how much I can do with my computer. Still, I will always love going to the library, holding books, and turning pages. It just seems odd to read them online. Thank you for stopping by to read and comment!

  5. As convenient as my laptop is, I will always have a desktop computer. It is my office and I love it.

So glad you have a new computer in your home. Good decision, IMHO.

    1. Darlene, this was a guest post...but coincidentally I did get a new laptop with tax money this year, so now I have 2...a desktop and a laptop and I am loving it! Thanks for stopping by to read and for your comments!

  6. So glad to hear that you did get a new computer, Kathy. I, too, have a desktop and a laptop. I'm really more comfortable with the desktop, but the laptop is really convenient when I want to sit in the living room with my husband or out back on the patio. My husband also has a desktop -- we're down to only two vehicles now, but we have three computers. Oh my!

But, it sure is a relief to have computers that work so well. I know you feel the same way, Kathy. Now -- to keep the internet coming through. It seems that the WiFi kinda flops off periodically when my husband uses the laptop.

    1. Betty, I got a new laptop and I still have my desktop. I certainly like the versatility of the laptop for commenting. I still do all my writing on my desktop. Thanks for stopping in to read and for your comments.
